City Poem
By Raeesbegam Usmani

City binds them all; the commuters

in a thread as colourful beads

Of different sizes, colours and types

they enter the city as the sun rises

And leave it as it is as the sun sets

returning in the same or a different bus

from the same place, at the same time, sharing

Passing smile-sometimes exhausted,

Sometimes anxious, sometimes elated

a routine they have been living

For years, the group of survivors

Fighting to lead a better life

together, unaware, at different fronts.

Different types and kinds of commuters

travel together, share silences, occasional small talks

While commuting to and from the city

Every day, for years.
