Blue Heron
By Belinda Behne
Listen to Podcast

Too many geese now

invade the wetland marsh

Where is my heron?

the great winged blue one

who lifts the earth into the sky

in powerful slow motion

stopping my heart?

I watch

I wait

Time expands into forever

until, one day

a sudden explosion

of broad blue-grey wings

rise and spread just beyond my window

The world opens

piercing me with joy

My heron!

O look how beautiful your are!
